Along Europe's Scenic "Yellow Roads"

Off the beaten path... Venice is around the corner, over the bridge, another island... Hidden places that most visitors miss. Like secluded vineyards outside Florence or the rare skill of classical art restoration... maze-like medieval streets... learning the secrets of Italian wine pairing... art... music... Explore the new, and see the old, in a whole new light on this decidedly different twist on three of Italy's most popular cities...

Travel via high-speed rail and experience an Italy most visitors seldom see – daily life behind the scenes in three of its most beguiling cities... in Venice, find masterpieces in the bohemian backstreets of San Polo... in Florence, get a behind-the-scenes look at Renaissance art restoration, wine and dine at a hilltop fortress that shelters the wine cellars of the Frescobaldi family (vintners since the 14th century), visit the palazzo of a concert pianist in the heart of the city for an intimate evening of music, aperitifs, and an insider's look at local history and politics... and in Rome, tour the Vatican Museums, after hours, including halls and rooms seldom open to the public; and visit Castel Gandolfo, the summer residence of the Pope. Discover Rome, Florence and Venice by first-class train... exploring the new, and seeing the old, in a whole new light.

Private visit and recital at Palazzo Bargellini

Day 5

Exclusive visit with pianist Gregorio Nardi

One of the best-preserved Renaissance palaces in Florence, the 16th-century Palazzo Bargellini was acquired in the 1940s by the author Piero Bargellini, who later served as mayor of Florence during the devastating 1966 flooding of the Arno. Today, it is the home and studio of Bargellini’s grandson, internationally known concert pianist and musicologist Gregorio Nardi… who welcomes you to the palazzo for a tour (including the preserved studio where his grandfather worked), a private piano recital, pleasant conversation and an aperitivo.

Hotel Indigo® Rome - St. George

Nights 6 and 7

Feeling at home in a community of creators...

Set amidst the galleries, boutiques and workshops of Via Giulia in the historic center of Rome, the five-star luxury Hotel Indigo® Rome - St. George perfectly blends modern comforts with its neighborhood’s colorful story, as its original travertine marble walls and murals celebrate the area's long history of artistic expression.

Venice, Florence and Rome were all fabulous. But our experience would not have been as grand if it wasn't for our terrific Tour Director.

Our tour director was outstanding. Special events for "Tauck only" travelers made this trip wonderful. In addition not having to worry about luggage, transportation, etc. enabled us to simply enjoy the experience of visiting Italy knowing the "details" were being handled by Tauck. Definitely the best way to travel abroad!

Most Memorable Moment:

Private after-hours tour of the Vatican & Sistine Chapel, piano recital with Gregorio Nardi, tour & dinner at the winery were some of our favorite items on this trip.

I cannot say enough about the small group culturious tour. Never experienced anything like it. The local guides were amazing and I learned so much about artwork and history of these amazing cities. Even though the days were packed with activities, we still had time to go off on our own. The food and lodgings were first class.

Most Memorable Moment:

The after hours tour of the Vatican was amazing, as was the winery tour and dinner. Have to mention the piano recital at Gregorio Nardi's place was up there too.
