Cultural journeys and expeditions

Tracing the coastline of the Sea of Japan, this immersive journey showcases Japan and South Korea through a seamless blend of history, artistry, and contemporary life. Begin with two nights in Tokyo, discovering serene shrines and dynamic neighborhoods before boarding the Shinkansen to Osaka to embark on an 8-night cruise aboard Le Soléal.

Cruise to culturally rich ports including Tamano and nearby Kurashiki, sacred Miyajima and Hiroshima, the hot springs of Beppu, pearl-farming Uwajima, the preserved castle town of Hagi, and the fishing port of Sakaiminato. Cross to Busan for a glimpse of Korea's colorful coastal character, then continue by high-speed rail to Seoul for three nights exploring royal palaces, traditional hanok architecture, and lively markets. Throughout the journey, regional cuisine and authentic experiences offer a true taste of life along these storied shores.

Sumo Wrestling Demonstration

Sumo Wrestling Demonstration

Few cultural traditions embody Japan's spirit with the power and pageantry of sumo. During your journey, you'll experience an engaging sumo wrestling demonstration that brings this centuries-old sport vividly to life—whether enjoyed onboard or as part of a special farewell celebration. More than athletic competition, sumo is a ritual steeped in Shinto tradition, from the ceremonial salt toss that purifies the ring to the focused stillness before each explosive match. As professional rikishi demonstrate technique and share insights into their disciplined way of life, the experience reveals the deep respect, hierarchy, and heritage that shape Japan's national sport. It is at once dramatic and dignified—an unforgettable encounter with a living tradition that continues to command reverence across the country.

Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo

Futuristic luxury in Tokyo's heart

High above the city, Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo is a five-star luxury hotel with views to take your breath away. Exuding crisp, contemporary style, this city-center gem prides itself on its excellent technology... a renowned spa featuring a range of relaxing and rejuvenating treatments and therapies... seven innovative restaurants (three of which are Michelin-starred) offering a variety of cuisines... several lounges and bars.... and impeccable service.

An excellent introduction into the history, culture and beauty of Japan. The hotels and food were excellent.
