Legendary Journeys and Adventures

Step back in time as you travel through historic New England, exploring centuries of history on Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod and in Newport.

Relive 17th-century life at Plimoth Patuxet and visit a whaling museum in Nantucket. Special experiences include explorations in Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket... a whale-watching cruise off the shores of Provincetown... a sightseeing cruise of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay... and a tour of "The Breakers," one of Newport’s most extravagant Gilded Age mansions. Read Less

Visiting "The Breakers"

Day 7

Explore one of Newport's grandest "cottages," The Breakers

Newport, Rhode Island is home to the opulent summer retreats constructed during the Gilded Age (1878-1889) by super-wealthy businessmen with names like Schermerhorn, Wetmore, Belmont, Astor and Vanderbilt. With the vast fortunes they amassed during this period of booming industry, these “tycoons” built “cottages” called The Elms, Kingscote, Chepstow and m. But perhaps the grandest of them all was – and still is – one that you’ll visit: The Breakers, a 70-room Renaissance-style palazzo inspired by the 16th-century palaces of Genoa and Turin, completed in 1895 as a summer home for Cornelius Vanderbilt II, son of “Commodore” Cornelius Vanderbilt of the New York Central Railroad. It has to be seen to be believed!

A New England lobster dinner

Day 4

Dig into a traditional New England lobster dinner on Cape Cod

In the Boston and Cape Cod area, local accents make words ending in “r” sound more like “ahh,” turning words like “lobster” into “lobstahh”... which is a particularly apt pronunciation for a delicious regional specialty that is plucked directly from the cold waters off the New England coast and perfectly prepared at traditional clambakes... or at the traditional New England “lobstahh” feast you'll enjoy during your stay in the Cape Cod village of Chatham.

Cruising Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay

Day 7

Set off on an evening cruise of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay

Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island forms the largest estuary in New England, and an expansive natural harbor that opens to the Atlantic Ocean. Newport sits at the southern end of the largest of the Bay's 30 islands, Aquidneck, and faces the Atlantic. Enjoy a scenic evening cruise of the bay and Newport Harbor, winding up at the city's newest luxury waterfront venue for an exclusive farewell reception and dinner overlooking the harbor.

Chatham Wayside Inn

Nights 4 and 5

Classic New England elegance for more than a century and a half

Since 1860, the historic Chatham Wayside Inn has offered stylish accommodations, comfortable dining and outstanding service in the heart of the quaint seaside village of Chatham, Cape Cod – creating the perfect New England experience year-round. Here, Chatham’s Main Street, an exclusive mile of boutique shops, art galleries, restaurants, and other seaside activities, is just steps from your door.

Reviews (36)

This was our 16th Tauck tour and, as always, no disappointment. The choices of sights, accommodations, and food were all terrific. A little too much time on the bus, but it’s the only place to see the beautiful areas we visited. Great views from most rooms where possible. Everything of importance was pointed out and we could take photos.

Most Memorable Moment:

Going to Martha’s Vineyard. It was on my bucket list.

This trip was the most relaxing, enjoyable and beautiful trip with seven of our family members ranging in age from 71 to 10. All of the guests were very congenial and the experience could not have been better.

Most Memorable Moment:

Whale watching with our grandchildren and walking through the streets of Edgar Town at Martha's Vineyard.
